OAXACA COMMUNITY CAMP – BRINGING EVERYONE TOGETHER AND IMPROVING THE LOCAL TRAIL NETWORK
Hey everyone! So, we decided to change things up and cancel the originally planned Tour De Gnar in Oaxaca early December. We focused on bringing the biking community together to give some much-needed love to Doble Derrame—an old downhill track that’s got history, potential, and let’s be honest, a ton of character.
The mission was simple—bring together the Oaxaca Bike Expedition crew, local builders, pro athletes, and the community to revamp this trail and make it rad again. And let me tell you, it was a full-on team effort! We had paid community workers, amazing volunteers, and some of the best athletes in the game pitching in to make it happen. Huge shoutout to the community of Santa Catarina Ixtepeji for letting us work in their incredible park. You guys are legends!
Of course, we couldn’t have done it without the amazing sponsors who fueled us through the dinner, test day, and after-party: Mezcal Amara’s, Pitiona, Chirundo Oaxaca, and Kazala drinks Oaxaca. Thank you for keeping us stoked and energized!
Ana Julia and Hannah Bergemann kicked things off like absolute rockstars. They’d just wrapped up their camp, but instead of taking a break, they jumped straight into two days of digging and building. Their energy and passion were contagious and set the tone for everything that followed.
Meanwhile, Nate and I were still in the middle of our camp with Oaxaca Bike Expedition, but we just couldn’t stay away as well. We joined the crew early mornings before coaching and for two solid days, rolling up our sleeves to help bring Doble Derrame back to life.
Peter Salido joined in as well, sharing his riding skills and knowledge of the terrain. He joined us for some really fun and fast laps and the roady Oaxaca’s trails. Always a pure blast to ride with this guy !!
And then came the cavalry! Georgia Astle, Michaela Gatto, and Casey Brown showed up, ready to roll. They brought their insane amount of stoke for the sport and their A-game, not just for their camp but also to test the freshly revamped track with us.
“This wasn’t just about fixing up a trail. It was about community, collaboration, and giving back. We believe companies should give back not just with money but with experience. That’s why we brought in pro athletes and trail builders who’ve worked on some of the biggest projects around—like Rampage—to team up with local riders and community workers. These same community workers are the ones we hire to maintain and expand the trails, and they’re absolutely crushing it.” – Javier Salazar – Oaxaca Bike expeditions owner.
To cap it all off, we had an epic trail test day. The revamped Doble Derrame rides beautifully! It’s fast, with some good-sized features and drops that keep things exciting, and the scenery at speed is absolutely breathtaking. There’s nothing quite like ripping through a track that blends technical challenges with amazing scenery. The feedback from everyone was beyond stoked—this trail is ready to shred and open to anyone!
Massive thanks to everyone who made this possible—from Ana Julia and Hannah’s early hustle to the powerhouse trio of Georgia, Michaela, and Casey, my son Pete and the amazing Oaxaca crew. This whole experience reminded us why we do what we do. It’s not just about the ride; it’s about the connections, the memories, and the shared passion that keep us coming back.
