Northwave’s new eco-friendly shoe has revamped one of the brand’s most popular models by way of a responsible and ecological approach, while at the same time enhancing durability, reliability and performance. The upper is 100% RePET; the Michelin Hybrid flat sole uses the ReRUBBER compound obtained from post-production waste
With more than 30 years of experience outfitting cyclists of all disciplines, Northwave knows better than most what it means to make a difference. Making a difference is Northwave’s mission through a constant pursuit of new technologies, new solutions and better performance.
These days, however, the difference isn’t made on the road or trails. The biggest challenge for everyone, both in cycling and beyond, is sustainability. Northwave intends to embrace the topic head on. With the Tailwhip Eco Evo, the Italian brand is forging a new path toward responsible materials, circular economy and product longevity.
The Tailwhip Eco Evo is the ecological evolution of the Northwave Tailwhip, the flat pedal mountain bike shoe highly coveted by both freeride and all-mountain enthusiasts. The approach remains unchanged: the shoe’s performance levels up while its environmental impact spirals down. The Tailwhip Eco Evo is made from pre- and post-consumer recycled materials, from RePET, which is derived from recycled PET bottles to its ReRUBBER Michelin Hybrid sole, which is made by blending post-production recycled rubber with virgin rubber.
The Tailwhip Eco Evo was developed in collaboration with ACBC (Anything Can Be Changed), an Italian company leader in the design and production of sustainable products. The partnership strengthens Northwave’s increasing attention to the issues of environmental responsibility and circular economy.
The new Northwave shoe isn’t only bio-based and eco-friendly, it’s also high performing. The Tailwhip Eco Evo further highlights the qualities already expressed in the Tailwhip in terms of resistance and grip, now with less environmental impact, and without compromising performance.
STYLE AND SUBSTANCE
The Tailwhip Eco Evo’s modern design boasts a look with the reworked shapes and solutions that define a successful model. This shoe combines a gravity spirit with a skate look that feels equally at ease in urban environments, away from trails, paths and slopes.
Above all, Northwave has created the Tailwhip Eco Evo to be a durable and resistant shoe that can meet the challenges of any trail. Its materials were specifically designed not to compromise on performance and durability, but to further improve them.
Sustainability isn’t only a matter of sustainable materials, but also of durability and reliability.
PRACTICAL EVOLUTION, FOR MEASURABLE SUSTAINABILITY
The creation of a heel-to-toe sustainable shoe, from sole to upper, is achieved by using three responsible and environmentally friendly materials:
Re-PET: a polyester derived from recycled PET bottles
Re-RUBBER: a compound that reuses rubber fragments left over from production processes
Re-FOAM: a foam developed from post-production waste materials
The Tailwhip Eco Evo’s upper, lining, tongue, laces and insole are made from 100% Re-PET. The insole is made from 86% Re-FOAM.
The Michelin flat sole uses hybrid technology and is made from 26% RE-RUBBER, which blends virgin material with recycled rubber from processing waste. This decision is aimed at greater sustainability without compromising the Tailwhip’s valued grip and cushion.
AVAILABLE NOW
The Tailwhip Eco Evo experience starts before you even put on the shoes, thanks to its special packaging made from recycled paper. This was naturally an obvious choice for a product that wants to be truly sustainable throughout its life cycle from production to packaging, from the first ride to the last pedal stroke.
Each shoe also has a QR CODE linked to a digital identity that contains all the information and certification about the materials used in its production. This document can be consulted online at any time and contains more information about the materials used and their origin.
Previewed at Eurobike 2022 and among the highlights of the Italian bike festival in Misano (September 15-17), the Eco Evo Tailwhip shoe is available both online and in stores in three color variants: Deep Blue, Forest Green, and Black, for a suggested retail price of €109.99.
