Aberdeenshire is an emerging destination within Scotland and the region’s mountain bike trails are developing at a rate of knots, thanks to the strong local riding community and the management of the Aberdeenshire Trail Association.
It’s got a style of trail for everyone whilst keeping things completely natural. In this episode of Scotty’s Scotland Showcase we explore, the infamous Lightning Bolt trail through Balmoral Estate that finishes at Loch Muick, the hand-built trails around Ballater, Mastermind and Heartbreak Ridge and the Munro, Beinn a’ Bhùird.
This episodes sustainability focuses on the trail etiquette, managing how you ride, riding to the conditions and understanding the location you’re in. Being able to ride locations like Beinn a’Bhùird are privileges that we as MTB’ers can’t take for granted. We need to respect these fragile landscapes. The trail associations are working to build bigger trail networks and communicate the benefits that MTB’ing brings to the local communities. The best way we all can help, is by appreciating and understanding the work that goes in to creating the trails we love to ride.
