Riding crazy downhill MTB trails – Chatel bike park in the French alps is fantastic and has so many incredible DH freeride trails, Sam Pilgrim rides his downhill bike down the sickest black level runs! Which one would you ride?
“I head over from Morzine to Chatel Bike Park via chair lift in the amazing Portes du Soleil mountain biking paradise in the french alps! Chatel Bike Park is known for being one of the most gnarly and exciting bike parks in Europe, so I head over there to have a ride on some of the sick technical downhill trails and black level freeride tracks. We start the day off in Morzine up at Super Morzine on the big hip jump close to the top of the main lift station to get warmed up for a day filled with shredding.
After doing a few hits, we meet up with some more riders and head over a couple of mountains in search of the famous Chatel bike park! To get there, we had to hit a few roads which were so fun for full speed riding and wheelies and of course a few chairlifts and trails. We arrived around lunchtime and had roughly 4 hours of shred time, so we went about hitting some crazy black trails including the Black shore trail that is full of wooden features, and big gap jumps over rivers and chasms! The size of some of the gaps and jumps is pretty insane, and I’m sure the GoPro doesn’t always do the size of the jumps justice. I’m happy I decided to ride my downhill bike as it would have been arm pump central if not!
After catching the last lift home we were able to squeeze in a run down a fun blue trail where we had a huge cut up the race with off-piste riding and overtakes, This was the best day ever!”
