Getting to the bottom of numbers VS reality on the new Ibis Ripmo, with Jeff Kendall-Weed.
The numbers show this bike to be longer than it’s smaller wheeled brother, the HD4. However, to me, with it’s steeper head angle and MUCH steeper seat tube angle, the Ripmo rides far smaller than it might appear on paper. Additionally, my HD4 is set up for ultimate downhill ability, complete with a 170mm fork. Compared to my set up, this means the Ripmo is almost two degrees steeper in head angle, and wheelbases are virtually identical. BB drop and the ratio of chainstay length to wheel diameter, on the Ripmo, both contribute to this feel.
