How is this for something a little different? It isn’t often you get such a beautiful and in-depth view behind the scenes in a bike factory. The Bixi isn’t an MTB, but it is a bike, and the loving process that goes into creating something that offers so much joy is the same regardless of its eventual two-wheeled intentions.
Bixi Bikes—combining the words “bicycle” and “taxi”—were first hatched at our expanded Chicoutimi, Quebec facilities in 2009, when Devinci manufactured 3,000 bikes for rental at 300 stations across 3 Montreal boroughs. More than 50,000 Bixis have since gone on to headline city bike-sharing programs across the globe, including those in London, New York, Melbourne, Toronto and Chicago. Here, witness the Bixi’s birth—an exhaustive in-house process, where computer design, aluminum welding, stress testing, and assembly all take place under one roof in Devinci’s factory.
