Marin, one of the originals!

Marin, one of the originals!

Marin had a few pieces of history up their sleeve at Eurobike this year, with the company being so steeped in it (Marin is a county in California that was arguably the birthplace of MTB) why not take advantage? This is thier 30th year of producing bikes and the stand had a very vintage feel. It also underlies the launch of a new bike, the Pine Mountain, if you don’t remember that name, here is some retro bike porn to get you excited…

So retro drooling over and done with lets take a look at Marin’s new steed for 2016, we bring you the all new Pine Mountain…

Oooof... The new Pine Mountain 1 crikey it looks good!

It’s a 27.5+ hard tail with a heritage that deserves the moniker. Available in two guises the Pine Mountain 1 features a 4130 Butted CroMo Steel frame, SRAM X7 drivetrain and 4130 Butted CroMo Steel forks. The Pine Mountain 2  has a Columbus Thron Butted and Formed CrMo frame with Boost 148x12mm Thru-Axle Dropouts and sports a set of Fox Float 34 forks and an XT Drivetrain.

Elsewhere on the stand the Rift Zone and Mount Vision drew attention. Although not new bikes for 2016 the spec has changed and there are some interesting tweaks. The Mount Vision sits well in the Trail Bike category with 140mm of travel front and rear it features the IsoTrac suspension platform launched last year and the top spec Pro version is adorned with suspension from BOS and gearing and brakes from Shimano XTR.

The bike features 4in1 Cable Routing which internally chases 4 cables through the frame to give one of the cleanest looking lines available. The frame itself features an enhanced monocoque carbon frame construction with IsoTrac suspension platform and a custom-tuned shock. By utilising flexing stays the suspension system eliminates the need for a rear pivot, reducing the weight and enhancing the ride.

The Rift Zone is their 110mm short travel 29er trail bike. It’s fast fun and playful to ride, perfect for long days in the saddle or for when you want to just hammer it on the trails with all the advantages of a bigger wheel size…

The bike features a host of lightweight components as you would expect at this level of spec. The BOS Micro shock saves weight whilst not compromising on performance, whilst the XTR groupset just adds to the bling… A Fox 34 Float Factory 29 Fork keeps things controlled up front…
