Just launched: the Energy Return Wheel!
ERW is a bit weird, but then so was suspension and disk brakes back in the day, and 29ers were once frowned upon too. The advantages are obvious, the system uses rubber stretched over rods to give it a traditional tyre like feel. You can then adjust the tension in the rods to give the tyre a different feel according to rider preference and terrain. The 29er carbon rim is the brain child of designer Brian Russell from Colorado and he is really excited by the prospects of this new system.
They are looking at putting some sidewalls on to keep the mud out, which has to be a must for the European market!
