Fuel EX

The Fuel EX is Trek’s most versatile bike in their range. 2013 sees a complete redesign from the ground up that brings race day technology to the all day adventurer. It’s still the same full suspension trail bike that we fell in love with, only know it’s better. Rear travel on the Fuel EX has been increased to 130mm, expanding its capabilities without sacrificing its light, nimble character, using Trek’s Patented Active Brake Pivot (ABP).

2013 Trek Fuel EX 9.9

The Fuel EX 9.9 is the top model in the line-up, available either as a complete build as pictured or as a frameset. The frame on the 9.9 is fully carbon, while the The slightly cheaper 9.8, pictured below shares the same frame geometry as the 9.9 but comes with an aluminium rear triangle. As you’d expect on the 9.9 the spec list is all top drawer with kashima coated fox suspension front and rear, a DT Swiss XM 1550 Tricon wheelset with 15mm front axle and 142mm rear axle and a 2×10 drivetrain courtesy of Sram X0.

With single ring set ups becoming increasingly popular, especially with the launch of Sram’s XX1 drivetrain, the Fuel EX features ISCG 05 tabs along with a removable front mech mount, so if you do fancy going for the minimalist one ring only approach, you’ll be able to keep your chain firmly in place along with the clean lines of the bike.
