Trek World Frankfurt 2013 – New Bikes Overview
It’s been a long day, but some interesting things have sprung from the 2013 Trek World Show in Frankfurt. We have seen one totally new machine aimed at the US and UK markets, the EX range has been totally reworked and the Superfly gets a turbo boost.
This post is aimed at being a quick overview, more detailed posts will go up during next week specific to each bike in the range, but hopefully this should be enough to whet your appetite!
First up the Superfly!
Just like last year the Superfly is available in a hard tail and full suss format but that is where the similarity ends. The frame has been completely reworked on both the hard tail and the full suss models. Trek capitalised on their vast knowledge of high end road bike frames and spent the last two years working on the 2013 Superfly and Superfly 100. The result is a race tuned thoroughbred machine that has been built to win XC races. The hard tail weighs in at just 896grams and the full suss is a very svelte 1850grams with the rear shock! Light, stiff and very fast is what the Superfly range is all about. Apollo is the moniker given to the program after the Apollo rockets that sent man into space…
A very clean looking Superfly hard tail, light as a feather…
Fuel EX
The Fuel EX has long been the popular choice among many a rider, in previous years the 120mm platform for the suspension set it as the perfect bike for a rider looking to do a little more than just XC. This year the entire range gets revamped to offer 130mm of suspension front and rear. The geometry has remained the same, but the fun factor has been increased. The bikes this year are looking insane, especially the Fuel EX 9.8 which has a marbled blue effect to the carbon… Filth!
Best looking bike at the show by far…
The photo does not do the paintwork justice!
Stache
A totally new platform for Trek is the Stache, a 29er hard tail with 120mm of travel upfront. To us it looks just about the perfect bike for the rider looking to get into mountain biking, well priced at £1800 it offers performance and quality that should appeal to the rider looking to get a little something more than just your basic bike. The big wheels will help it roll and you should find the bike feels much more capable than the advertised 120mm of suspension. Big wheels smooth out the trail and the Stache has been out together by none other than Mr Moustache Gary Fisher himself, in fact that is where it gets it’s name from…
