Carrying tools somewhere other than a bag is now a viable option thanks to numerous on-the-bike stashing options. Lezyne, known for their high-quality tools and pumps have their solution to bagless riding in the form of the Flow Storage Cage.

Consisting of a bottle cage with tool case, the Flow Storage Cage houses a V16 multitool, a Co2 head, some glueless patches and up to two CO2 canisters. The canisters strap to the outside of the cage in little neoprene jackets and the tool and extras fit into a plastic housing below the cage.
The cage is available on its own or 'Loaded' with the tool and Co2 cartridges.
The Tool
The V16 is a classic Lezyne tool weighing in at 125g and features:
- Hex 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8mm
- Star Shaped T25, T30
- Flat Head screwdriver
- Chain Breaker: (9/10/11/12 speed)
- Tire Lever
- Open end 10mm wrench
- Spoke Wrenches: Mavic Mtb, 3.22, 3.4
On The Trail
Installation is as easy as imagined and the bottle cage is simply attached as normal. What is immediately useful for mountain bike frames with limited space is the side loading cage which makes it easier to get the bottle in and out of a tight frame.
The tool and Co2 head sit snuggly in the case at the base of the cage, with the patches slotting in next to the tool. I quickly decided the patches were better off in a pocket so I could grab the tool more easily and not lose them. The Co2 cartridges attach securely with Velcro and don't give any rattle and stayed firmly in place.
Getting the tool in and out isn't the quickest, but the case does keep the water out and provides a sleek looking package on the bike. It requires both sides to be squeezed to release the cover and when replacing it you need to make sure both sides engage firmly otherwise the cover can come off as I found out. Essentially, it was user error, but the cover could be improved with a slightly firmer 'click' to engage it and make it more idiot-proof.
The tool is one of my favourites and I love the magnetic quick link attachment which is genius. The range of tools covers almost all eventualities and is actually nice to use, rather than a tool purely for emergencies. The chain breaker, for instance, is solidly built and works excellently. The right angle small hexes are helpful and the 8mm is actually useable to put some meaningful torque into pedals or cranks.
The CO2 inflator is minimalist and screws onto the valve to inflate, but is not as easy to use as systems with a dial to control the flow. I did end up using the Flow Storage system with Lezynes Alloy Drive pump which was an ideal combo. The pump is small (there is a larger version) so takes some effort to fill a tyre, but is light and compact and a good alternative to CO2 if you're not in a hurry.
Overall
A great tool and bottle cage, but the tool container could be a little easier to use. Lezyne has created a slick and sleek package to get all your tools and CO2 needs into a small, lightweight system.
