At A Glance
Exposure have been producing excellent lights for some time now, their knowledge and experience shows with this latest edition of the MaXx-D. Aimed at the serious XC racer looking for long lasting power, or just the casual rider who likes to be able to turn night into day the MaXx-D packs a lot of power into a small package. It’s an all-in-one unit, meaning the battery and LED are housed in the same body. It features the Optimised Mode Selection button that Exposure are using across all their lights these days. This allows you to custom tune the power output and the run time to your specifications. It’s pretty clever how they achieve this with just one button, and you’ll need the instruction manual to ensure you get it set up correctly. The MaXx-D also features an LED display on the back of the light, which indicates charge levels, and also the mode the light is in.

On The Trail
We’ve tested Exposures mega light, the Six Pack before, whilst it was exceedingly impressive in terms of performance it did feel as though you had attached a small bomb to your bars. The MaXx-D is smaller, lighter weight, and whilst not being as powerful as the Six Pack, we can’t really fault it in terms of the light it generates. It’s a stunningly bright light, with a very smooth spread both down the trail into the distance and in the near field range too. It’s been stuck on our Editor’s bars since it arrived, and frankly it’s been a struggle to get it off him. Whilst in the high mode you get enough illumination to attack the trail as quick as you might during the day time, and the impressive 10 hour run time in the medium/medium setting make it the perfect light for a solo 24 hour race. The bracket for the handle bars is simply the best on test, really simple and very sturdy, the light never moves when you’re riding and it is easy to adjust and remove the light when you need to charge it.
Overall
Well made and packed with technology, we love the display on the back and the ability to tune the lights power output. The bracket is excellent too and for the power to weight ratio you can’t get a better light.
