In a world of carbon the Mandrel bar is a refreshing bit of tradition for the lovers of aluminium out there. For a 35mm diameter bar it is very light weight and the team at ANVL paid a lot of attention to the taper. This ensures that whilst is has the all important 35mm girth for stiffness it doesn’t look like some sort of club hammer on your bike. Styling is subtle and with 800mm width and markings every 2.5mm you should be able to get it to a width that suits you. It’s pretty stiff on the trails and offers a decent amount of feedback as you ride. Available in blue, black and the red we have here the styling is understated and stylish. Suitable for DH or all-mountain work it’s sure to be bombproof given its heritage.

Rou Chater is the Publishing Editor of IMB Magazine; he’s a jack-of-all-trades and master of none, but his passion for bikes knows no bounds. His first mountain bike was a Trek 820, which he bought in 1990. It didn’t take him long to earn himself a trip to the hospital on it, and he’s never looked back since. These days he’s keeping it rubber side down, riding locally and overseas as much as possible.
