The product
The Shuttle AM is Pivot’s first Bosch Equipped bike. This makes them one of the few brands offering Bosch, Shimano and Fazua drivetrains for their electric lineup. Whichever you prefer, Pivot has it in the range.
The controller is integrated nicely in the top tube, making a sleek look. The Shuttle AM comes with a CX motor and the 750Wh battery. So a full powered E-bike. The battery is fixed in the downtube. Well hidden but it’s not possible to remove quickly.
Brake and shifting cables are internal through the carbon frame, but they have not adopted the much debated handlebar / headtube integration yet. To me, that is a plus.
The frame is equipped with high quality chainstay protectors placed on the right spots. So you can expect a silent ride even through the rough stuff.
Suspension wise, Pivot uses the DW link system, which provides a lovely plush and bottomless feeling. The front triangle has plenty of space for bottle cages, tool kits and tubestraps.
Geometry wise, the bike has a fairly slack head tube angle of 64.1 degrees, and although not overly long on the top tube, the 476mm reach on the size L bike feels nice and roomy. The 76.4 seat tube angle ensures decent climbing capacities and the 444 chainstay is neither long or short, but just right.
Out on the trail
Riding the Shuttle AM is a joy. The DW suspension is extremely plush and gave me the feeling I was riding a bike with at least 160mm travel. Pair this one up with some bulky DH tires and you’re set for riding any trail you can pedal up to. The slack head angle is a welcome sight too, giving the bike stability at speed while remaining easy to control on the steep stuff.
Handling is quite playful, on both the up and down. This bike loves a random wheelie or manual, bunny hop or scandi flick along the way. My initial feeling was that the front end was a tad high to my liking, but that was a quick fix with swapping over some headset spacers.
The Bosch CX remains a great motor, giving tons of power and control. The new integrated design on the top tube is nice and minimalistic too. Weight wise, the Pivot puts just over 21kg on the scale, which is very reasonable for a full weight Eeb.
Verdict
We loved the Shuttle AM. A real fun bike to ride with extremely well balanced suspension and great looks. Only downside I found was that the battery is not easy to remove from the frame, which makes transportation and battery charging a bit harder. Of course, everyone will mention the price point of the Shuttle. Yes, it is a lot of cash indeed. But hey, you’re looking at a Pivot after all. The build and ride quality is second to none, it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it for you.
